Carte de l'Isle St Domingue dressee pour l'ouvrage de M.L.E. Moreau de St Mery dessinee par I. Sonis 1796

Single sheet. Engraved. Physical description Note: Coloured boundary between French Sante-Domingue and Spanish San Domingo. Scale: [ca. 1:500 000 (lat)]. Additional Places: Haiti, Dominican Republic. This map was produced for M L E Moreau de St Mery's 1797 Description topographique, physique, civile, politique et historique de la partie française de l'isle Saint-Domingue. This colonial text was out of date even before it was published, part way through the 1791-1804 Haitian revolution, a revolt of enslaved and free people led by Toussaint Louverture which led to Haiti's independence and Haiti becoming the first country to permanently ban slavery.
