Plate
A white ironstone china soup plate, transfer-printed in blue with the Royal Coat of Arms in the centre and double rope borders with carrick bends around the rim. On a ribbon above the arms is the inscription 'STEAM SHIP GREAT BRITAIN' and below the royal motto 'DIEU ET MON DROIT'. Underneath the arms is printed 'SALOON'. The retailer's name 'J. STONIER, DRESDEN ROOMS, LORD STREET, LIVERPOOL', is printed on the base. The 'SS Great Britain', designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel, was launched in Bristol in 1843 and is now preserved there as a museum ship.
