Africae Tabula Nova (A new map of Africa)
Atlas sheet from an edition of Theatrum Orbis Terrarum with Latin text, published in 1573. Hand coloured copperplate engraving. This map of Africa is drawn on a trapezoidal projection. The title is within a strapwork cartouche. The sea area is decorated with three sea creatures and a scene of ships fighting a battle.
