Scotiae tabula (map of Scotland)
Atlas sheet from an edition of Theatrum Orbis Terrarum with Latin text, published in 1573. Hand coloured copperplate engraving. North is at 90 degrees. There is a key, inscribed on part of Ireland, to the islands in Loch Lomond, which is described as being subject to great tempests. The scale is in Scottish miles and the title is within a very elaborate strapwork cartouche. The sea area is decorated with a ship and a sea creature.
