Bowl

West African Yoruba carved offering bowl painted blue, yellow and black. It is in the form of a container with the lid in the shape of a bird. The top is supported by a seated female figure holding a bowl, flanked by two cockerels. It is surrounded by snakes. Carved bowls (agere ifa or ajere ifa) incorporating kneeling female figures, chickens and snakes are found in Yoruba speaking areas of West Africa and can be used in divination. Within a domestic setting, the bowls often held kola nuts.
