Patch box

Oval patch box with a mirror inside the lid, commemorating Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson (1758-1805). The surface is enamelled, the base and sides pale blue, the lid with a tinted transfer depicting Britannia seated on the sea shore. She holds a scroll inscribed 'NELSON', a ship is shown in the background and above her head is an eye with a nimbus. Inscribed on either side of the eye 'Britannia rules the waves'.
