Patch box lid
The lid of a patch box commemorating Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson (1758-1805). The surface is enamelled, painted with a depiction of the dying Nelson on the deck of 'Victory' supported by an officer. The scene surrounded by an inscription 'Off Trafagar the battle was Fought / Nelson's Life the Victory bought' - the whole is within a blue and gilt border with white dots.
