Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson, 1758-1805
Wax statuette of Nelson, facing forward in uniform with the sash of the Order of the Bath under his coat and a star on the left breast. He wears a hat bearing the 'chelengk' and leans on his sword, held as a cane under his left hand. The figure is relatively crude and stands on a wooden base modelled as a rock, which also rises behind it. This item is part of the Sutcliffe-Smith Collection, on loan to the Museum since 1946 and purchased in July 1974.
