Service vessel; Dinghy

Scale: 1:24. A contemporary full hull model of a ship's dinghy (circa 1795), built plank on frame in the Georgian style. Model is complete with bottom boards, four thwarts, and will row four oars through thole pins on the gunwale, or can be sailed by a small single-masted sail.

These small boats ranged from 12-14 feet in length and were generally used when in harbour or very fine calm weather. The dinghy is thought to be of Indian origin and was probably introduced into this country through the influences of the Honourable East India Company towards the end of the 18th century.
