Warship

Scale: 1:6. A sectional model of a ship's deck complete with cable compressors, scuttle tubes and an open hatch. The model is made largely of wood, and comprises of a section of planked deck, which has been either individually laid or scored, supported by deck beams, carlings and ledges. All are stained or varnished and made in either mahogany or pine. Between the two scuttle tubes is a made hatch combing which provides access to below, and provide access to working the compressors on the underside of the deck. There are two lengths of metal anchor chain, fixed at one end of the deck and lead down to metal lined scuttle tubes, mounted on raised wooden blocks on deck.

On the underside of the model mounted immediately below the two scuttle tubes and on the far end of the hatch combing deck beam are the three different patterns of anchor chain compressors manufactured in steel. All three are based upon the same principle of a curved metal arm pivoting at one end with an eye at the other four rigging a block and tackle, which when operated compress the anchor chain preventing any further movement.

Hand written on the underside of the model on the deck beam in white paint it is inscribed "Original (A)", on the other beam forward of the hatch it is inscribed "(B)"; "C" together with a pair of paper labels on which is hand written in ink is inscribed "No. 1 Plymouth" and "No. 2 Surveyor".
