Passenger/cargo vessel; Rowing/Sailing Boat

Scale: Unknown. A full hull model of a passenger and or cargo vessel from the Indo-China region. The hull has been carved from a solid piece of wood which has been gouged out internally and is left in a natural wood finish. The shape of the hull resembles a European skiff with a sharp and almost vertical stern and a long raking and slightly curved bow. A number of fittings have been applied such as washstrakes at the bow and stern, stringers and floor beams, a mast thwart, two fashioned bulkheads at the bow and stern, a flat tapering platform over the sternpost, and finally a small covered foredeck. Both the rudder and any mast and spars are missing. This model is identical to AAE0008 but only half the size and is also inscribed with the South Kensington Museum acquisition number 1868-116 written in pencil on the starboard quarter.
