Passenger/cargo vessel; Surf boat; Masula surf boat
Scale: About 1:12. A full hull model of a Masula surf boat (circa 1890) made entirely in wood and other organic materials and varnished overall. The double-ended hull is made from wide sewn planks constructed carvel fashion and caulked on the inside with over-sewn coconut fibre rope. There is no keel and the stem and stern posts project below the flat bottom. Painted on the port and starboard bow and stern: ‘2’. It is equipped with seven leaf-bladed composite paddles and a larger steering oar. The model is mounted on a pair of shaped wooden crutches and displayed on a rectangular wooden baseboard with rounded edges and four bun feet.
