Passenger vessel; Canoe; Bangladeshi River Boat

Scale: Approximately 1:6. A full hull model of a Bangladeshi river boat, made to illustrate the construction of vessels of the Brahmaputra valley, made entirely in wood with metal fittings. Shell constructed, the strakes, floor and side timbers are inserted after the planking is complete and are not connected with one another. The hull sweeps up at either end and is made up of wide, roughly cut planks joined together with large iron clamps. The four thwarts terminate outside the hull. Fittings include two pairs of strakes along the gunwales, one pair fitted to the exterior hull, the other pair fitted internally.
