Royal Naval uniform: pattern 1915

1915 regulation-pattern greatcoat belonging to Edward Napier Green (b. 1903). The double-breasted coat is of heavy wool and features six gilt buttons on each side bearing inscriptions. It is fitted with shoulder straps for the rank of Commander, Engineering Branch, indicated by the purple cloth between the three gold-lace stripes. The interior is lined with black sateen.

Edward Napier Green was a great-grandson of Frederick Green, the founder of F.Green & Co., the passenger and cargo-managing arm of the Green family shipping business.
