Indus (1871)
A whole plate negative. A fair quality port side view, taken from well ahead of the beam, of the passenger/cargo liner Indus (1871) at anchor in Gravesend Reach, River Thames. She has been re-boilered and given a new funnel and she has an auxiliary barque rig with three yards on each of her fore and main masts. The Watkins paddle tug Uncle Sam (1849) is alongside. Tilbury is in the background. The original negative has peeled off and been discarded but a safety sheet film copy has been produced from a 12x10 photographic print made from the original negative in the 1950s.
