Our learning programme will be a little different from September 2020 until we are able to welcome you back on site. In the meantime, whether you are in school or learning at home we have buckets of programmes you can get involved with.
Royal Museums Greenwich is a family of museums. The information below tells you all about the learning programmes run by our astronomy team. For information about the programmes run by The National Maritime Museum, Cutty Sark, The Queen's House and the Prince Philip Maritime Collections Centre click here
We have made a short video to introduce our astronomers and give you an outline of our programme.
We have created a special Learning at Home hub if you are looking for activities that students can do by themselves. All of these curriculum linked resources have been selected because they are self-contained so great to be set as independent study activities. We have something for everyone from EYFS to post-16 so check it out.
If you want to chat to a real Royal Observatory Greenwich astronomer we will be running facilitated digital sessions you can book too. We have two different types to choose from: workshops, online planetarium sessions or of course BOTH! See here for more information on booking.
What is a workshop?
In a workshop one of our astronomers will take a look at some of the biggest topics in space science and astronomy. These curriculum-linked sessions include a number of interactive elements such as video clips and demonstrations to help explain some of the more challenging scientific concepts. All workshops will finish with a question and answer segment so students can ask any space questions they may have. You will also receive a follow up activity so students can consolidate their learning and stretch their knowledge.
Find out what workshops we have on offer here.
What is an online planetarium show?
Let our astronomers take you and your students on an amazing journey to explore the wonders of the night sky. Combining real images from spacecraft and telescopes our Royal Observatory Greenwich astronomers will fly you around the solar system and beyond- wow! All sessions will finish with a question and answer session so students can ask their big space questions. As with a workshop you will also receive a follow up activity specific to your students’ key stage.
