Join Tim May, Curator of Maps and Mobilities, to look at migrant crossings in the Mediterranean through objects in the Museum's collection and two short documentaries by Forensic Oceanography.
Migrant crossings in the Mediterranean Sea increased during the 2010s, and lethal European policies of surveillance and securitisation led to thousands of deaths at sea. This event will feature screenings of Liquid Traces: The Left-to-Die Boat Case and Death by Rescue: The Lethal Effects of the EU's Policies of Non-Assistance.
This event is part of the London Migration Film Festival, which is holding its 10th annual edition from 27 November-3 December 2025. The festival aims to challenge the narrow rhetoric on migration that often sees migration, and people on the move, framed in reductive and dehumanising binaries.
Content warning: These films address distressing subject matter which may be unsuitable for children.
