This event is exclusive for our Members and is recommended for ages 16+. The event will take place at Mycenae House, 90 Mycenae Rd, Greenwich, London SE3 7SE.
Astronomy and art have had a long relationship, going back to ancient civilisations when art was used to interpret objects and patterns in the night sky.
This workshop offers an opportunity to put away our cameras and let our creative side loose to make our own unique interpretations of the night sky.
Don’t worry if you have never painted or drawn before, as this workshop is for complete beginners.
What you can expect
We will use a range of art mediums including pencils, oil pastels and charcoal to produce an art piece of the Orion Nebula.
You'll be guided through the process of drawing the nebula, adding and blending dark and light colours, and adding finishing details.
The art teacher will provide step-by-step instructions and will help you develop your artwork.
All materials will be provided and you do not need to prepare anything beforehand.
Who should attend?
This workshop is perfect for beginners and anyone interested in getting started with astronomy art.
In addition to learning a new skill set, art brings us closer to the target objects and allows us to focus more on details, colours, textures and patterns.
