The middle of London is far from the best place to do astrophotography. The severe light pollution masks many of the sky’s more subtle features and the weather is far from ideal. But then again, nothing worth doing comes easily.
Join Dr Greg Brown as he showcases the Observatory’s most recent work in the field of astrophotography in the Peter Harrison Planetarium.
We’ll discuss how the images are captured with our fleet of modern telescopes, including the newly-refurbished Annie Maunder Astrographic Telescope, and the careful processing needed to pull out those hidden details.
Finally, see the reveal of the images the team have produced over the past year and learn how light pollution and the elements are (almost) no match for modern technology – and just a little bit of perseverance.
