Royal Museums Greenwich (RMG) explores our relationship with the sea, space, and Britain’s role in world history. Our youth programme uses RMG’s collections and themes to create engaging and accessible programmes with and for young people aged 13 to 25.
We’re looking for a kind, organised, and child-centred Assistant Facilitator to support workshop delivery alongside the Lead Facilitator. You will support all aspects of workshop delivery, including:
- Set-up, take-down, and organising materials
- Manage participant registration, the safe sign-in and release of young people
- Liaising with parents/guardians
- Work directly with young people, supporting them to take part and build positive peer relationships
- Provide individualised support for different learning styles and young people with learning or access support needs
This entry-level, supporting role, is aimed at providing a paid development opportunity for someone at the start of their career, who would like more experience in youth and facilitation work in the heritage sector. If you haven’t done a role like this before - maybe you are starting out or maybe you are interested in a career change - transferable skills learned from public facing, voluntary, community, or customer service roles are welcome and valued.
Please make sure that you can provide evidence of your eligibility to live and work in the UK before applying for a freelancer opportunity with RMG.
What projects will you be working on?
Young Carnival Creators
From June to August, you’ll support Lead Facilitator Cee Boulaqui of Vibrance Mas, working with young people aged 13-17 to create their own Carnival costumes inspired by sound system culture and migration. Together you’ll deliver creative workshops, guiding participants to make their own carnival costume using recycled materials to create bold pieces that tell a story or celebrate their own heritage and identity. The project will finish with a performance on the judging stage at Notting Hill Carnival 2026, a trip you will also support on the day. Read more about Young Carnival Creators here.
Saturday Art Club
There is potential to extend this role to include Saturday Art Club, and we will discuss this with you in August. Part of the National Saturday Club Network, Saturday Art Club is a free weekly creative workshop for 13–16-year-olds at the National Maritime Museum. It’s a chance to try new techniques, visit other cultural venues, and make friends. Our members sometimes have experience of poor mental health and have shared that art club reduces loneliness, creates a sense of belonging, and is a place to process their feelings creatively.
