Letter from Commander Joseph H. Marryat to his mother, sent from HMS WRANGLER at the Bosphorus, dated 14 September 1856. Between May 1856 and May 1857 Marryat was in command of the wooden screw gunvessel HMS WRANGLER (1854) in the Mediterranean. In this letter he discusses a busy social life soon after the end of hostilities in the Crimea.
