Miscellaneous personal correspondence related to Henry Dundas, 1st Viscount Melville.
Miscellaneous personal letters both to and from Viscount Melville. Includes several letters relating to local Scottish affairs, such as the post of Salt-watchman of Corby Hall, and letters from anonymous writers regarding the sea fencibles and the abolition of the Oath of Abjuration. There is also a letter from the Bank of Scotland concerning the proposed doubling of stamp duty on bank notes. Also included is a letter from Baron Gardner congratulating Melville on his acquittal from charges that had been made against him, probably referring to Melville’s impeachment for the misappropriation of public funds in 1806.
