London General Shipowners' Society copies of representations from shipowners to various instititions

Volume containing printed copies of representations from shipowners to Queen Victoria and Parliament regarding the 'ruinous' condition of British shipping, and subsequent correspondence between the General Shipowners’ Society of London and Parliament, 1858-1859. With sundry loose newspaper cuttings, correspondence and the following items: pamphlet entitled ‘Belligerent Rights’ relating to objections to the Treaty of Paris, 1861; copy of a letter from the General Shipowners’ Society of London to the Board of Trade, in reference to the Anchors and Chain Cables Bill, 1863; paper entitled ‘The Isle of Dogs Canal. A Study in Early Public Investment’ by Walter M. Stern, reprinted from ‘The Economic History Review’ Second Series, Volume IV, No 3, 1952; ticket for the meeting of shipowners in the London Tavern on 2 February 1876 chaired by Lord Eslington MP.
