"Re: Jack's apprenticeship: Letters etc., Receipt for Premium Outfit Receipts etc.": letters relating to Damer-Powell's early naval career
A file kept by John Williams Damer-Powell containing his official apprenticeship indenture of 1904 with the ship, DYNOMENE; his official certificate of appointing as a Sub Lieutenant in the Royal Naval Reserve in 1919; and his official certificate of competency in 1920 as master of a foreign-going ship in the merchant service. Also includes letters of correspondence between various shipping companies and his father, Fred G. Powell, on any vacancy for an apprenticeship for his son, John Williams Damer-Powell, on one of their ships; letters from Henry Fernie & Sons confirming a vacancy for an apprenticeship on their ship DYNOMENE; cheque receipts of payment to his son from Henry Fernie & Sons; and lists of costs of his son's apprentice outfit and contents of his belongings. Originally contained in an envelope now placed on top.
