Log kept by John Dand on the barque SIR HENRY POTTINGER (1845), covering a voyage to Chile and back to Swansea, commenced on 18 March and terminated on 5 December 1858. As well as navigational details, it records the jobs he completed as carpenter and how the rest of the crew were employed. Between 3 July and 28 August the ship was laying in Caldera Bay, discharging coal and then taking in copper ore. Note the log entries for the last two days of the voyage can be found at the start of JOD/278/2.
