Royal Naval Loan Library consisting of committee meetings agendas correspondence and financial statement.

The records consist of notices and agenda of committee meetings, correspondence and financial statements, 1946 to 1947.

Administrative / biographical background
After the Royal Naval War Libraries had ceased to function at the end of the Second World War, it was decided to use the large collection of non-fiction books which had formed the loan collection as the basis for a peace-time lending library to serve members of the Royal Navy, Royal Marines and W.R.N.S., both serving and retired. The organization thus formed was called the Royal Naval Loan Library and it was financed by a capital sum partly made over from the Royal Naval War Libraries fund, with a grant from the Royal Naval War Amenities Fund and other donations. After just a year of existence the organization decided that its financial basis was not strong enough and it was wound up.
