Copies of letters of Edward Hawke Locker, 1811-1814.
Leatherbound volume containing contemporary copies of letters sent by Edward Hawke Locker, mostly from HMS CALEDONIA (1808) in the Mediterranean, dated between 18 May 1811 and 18 January 1814.
In this period Locker was civil secretary to Admiral Sir Edward Pellew, Commander-in-Chief of the Mediterranean Fleet. An index to the letters sent can be found at the back of the volume. The letterbook was later used as a scrapbook (by his son Arthur Locker?) for articles from ‘The Times’ newspaper, dated between 25 September 1868 and 14 April 1871, for which there is a table of contents at the front of the volume. There are also some loose cuttings relating to ‘The Graphic’ magazine.
