Letters received by Martin's grandfather Admiral of the Fleet Sir George Martin (1764-1847), including appointments from 1811 up to his promotion to the rank of vice-admiral in 1847. There is also a letter offering him the governorship of the Royal Hospital, Greenwich; and a letter from the secretary of the Hospital to his executors discussing the presentation of a portrait, 1848.
