Four booklets containing a memoir written by Edward Beck circa 1850 and entitled 'How I went to Sea'. It covers his apprenticeship under William Moyse on the brig CONSTANTIA of Swansea, then his employment on the collier brig LADY FRANCIS and the East India Company ship WOODFORD, circa 1820-1827. No 2 from the original set is not present, but the content of this volume is included in a transcription, see JOD/266/6/2.
