Memoir of Admiral Sir Harry Burrard-Neale

The memoir includes the careers of the Burrard family from the 17th century, providing interesting anecdotes and personal stories as well as detail of their careers in the Army. The chief part of the memoir concerns Admiral Sir Harry Burrard-Neale which includes his heroism at the Mutiny on the Nore and later his involvement in the Battle of Camperdown and Battle of Belle Isle. Also included is a story of an old couple waving down the SAN FIORENZO which had King George III on board in an attempt to see if their son David Campbell was on board. Mrs Orlebar was an author of children’s stories who wrote Frank Bennett in the same year as this memoir.

Administrative / biographical background
The memoir, written by a female novelist and children’s writer [Mrs Orlebar] was written 29 years after the death of Sir H Burrard-Neale and I believe some of this content would have been dictated to her and taken from memory; which adds an oral history element to the record.
