The admiral from Mayo : a life of Almirante William Brown of Foxford, father of the Argentine navy

Brown was born in County Mayo in 1777 and pursued a career as a merchant seaman. He became involved in Latin American politics in the last days of the Spanish Empire and rose to become one of the founding fathers of Argentina when it achieved political independence from Spanish colonial rule. Brown had an amazing record of success in a series of naval campaigns but endured persecution, trial and imprisonment several times.
