The celestial planisphere or transparent star director

This planisphere, or star chart, is printed in colour on card and shows the main constellations visible in the northern hemisphere and the Milky Way. The brightest stars are represented by star-shaped holes in the card that are backed with yellow tissue paper. This allows the user to hold the card up to a light source and see the stars as light spots against a darker background. Scales, information and a key to the constellations and brightest stars depicted in the centre are situated around the circle.
