The Hospital at Greenwich
Technique includes etching. Inscribed to right above image 'V B B1 p215'. Jan (or Johannes) Kip's dates are 1653-1722 and this view is presumably based on an earlier image also attributed to him (PAD2173) though in this case showing the King William and Queen Mary Courts - the latter not started until 1735 - as open courtyards (as they were built) rather than as the three parallel ranges of the earlier version. It repeats the unexecuted buildings and apsidally ended courtyard, upper right, seen in the earlier print. The inscription may relate it to Campbell's 'Vitruvius Britannicus' [TBC]. PvdM 10/05
