Bonaparte in Torbay, at Anchor, on board His M Ship Bellerophon, Capt F C Maitland, July 24, 1815, previous to his sailing for St Helena (Eurotas and Liffey in background)
Technique includes etching. The artist is George Tobin (1768-1838) who as a lieutenant sailed with Bligh on his second breadfruit voyage and was in retirement at Teignmouth from 1814 a friend of the marine painter Thomas Luny. A lifelong amateur artist and a contributor to the 'Naval Chronicle', he became rear admiral by seniority just before his death.
