Billingsgate Market. Plate 9
A lively scene at the old Billingsgate Market, with the ships in the dock in the background. The dock was the largest trading area in the port until the enclosed docks were built. General goods brought into the dock were sold in the market. The dock was filled in when the new fish market was built in the middle of the 19th century.
