Sir George Rooke
A full-length portrait of George Rooke (c. 1650–1709) in a long wig, waistcoat, coat and breeches. He holds a letter in his right hand and stands beside a table, on top of which is a chart. The masts and rigging of a ship are visible on the left in the background. Lettered beneath the image with the title, ‘Sr. George Rooke’, and the engraver’s name, ‘Aveline sculp.’ This French print was produced in Paris by one of the Aveline family of engravers, print-publishers and print-sellers, probably Pierre Aveline (1656–1722).
