Two unidentified ship's engineers on board the general cargo heavy lift ship Empire Elaine (1942) while under way in the South China Sea. They are standing on the starboard side of the boat deck aft and are holding up a banner on which is the wording 'L.O.L. Empire Elaine. Temperance. 0001 with the logo of a ladder either side of a six pointed star'. Six of the accommodation ventilators have been laid on the deck. The photographer is looking forward showing the funnel, which has the markings of Lyras & Lemos. The photographer notes that this is the Orange Day celebrations, presumably referring to the Battle of the Boyne which took place on 1 July 1690 in the Julian calendar. Vertical format.
