Two unidentified ship's engineers on board the general cargo heavy lift ship Empire Elaine (1942) while under way in the South China Sea. They are standing on the starboard side of the boat deck aft and are holding up a banner on which is the wording 'L.O.L. Empire Elaine. Temperance. 0001 with the logo of a ladder either side of a six pointed star'. The photographer is looking to starboard and there are a number of coils of mooring rope on the deck. The photographer notes that this is the Orange Day celebrations, presumably referring to the Battle of the Boyne which took place on 1 July 1690 in the Julian calendar. Negatives numbers N90960 to N90964 inclusive were taken at the same time.
