On board the general cargo heavy lift ship Empire Elaine (1942) at Calcutta.
On board the general cargo heavy lift ship Empire Elaine (1942) while undergoing repairs at Calcutta. The photographer is looking forward from the port side of the poop showing the hatch boards and most of the hatch beams removed from number three hold. The temporary accommodation built on her upper deck abreast the holds has been almost entirely removed and just rubbish remains. Off her port side is a British India M class passenger/cargo liner. Vertical format.
