On board the general cargo heavy lift ship Empire Elaine (1942) at Calcutta.
On board the general cargo heavy lift ship Empire Elaine (1942) while undergoing repairs at Calcutta. The photographer is looking aft and down from the rear of the bridge showing some of the hatch covers removed from number two hold and all of the covers and beams removed from number three hold. The temporary accommodation built on the port side of her upper deck abreast number three hold has been entirely removed but some on the starboard side is still in place. Off her port side is a British India M class passenger/cargo liner.
