An unknown timber wharf and storage facility, said to be on the Columbia River, Oregon, U.S.A.
An unidentified timber wharf and storage facility, said by the photographer to be on the Columbia River, Oregon, U.S.A. but this cannot be confirmed. On the wharf is a brick building with a vented pitched roof, stacks of sawn timber and a horse with a timber laden four wheeled cart. The photographer is serving on board the general cargo heavy lift ship Empire Elaine (1942) and the only ports she entered on her homeward voyage from Madras, India, to Leith in Scotland were Coos Bay and Portland in Oregon for cargo and Aruba in Venezuela for bunkers. Beyond the wall of the wharf is a wide tract of open water with a small island; this stretch of water is much too wide to be at Portland and Coos Bay does not have any enclosed port facilities.
