The ship has a full deck cargo of sawn timber which is well chained down and is on a voyage from Vancouver to London. The photographer is on board the general cargo heavy lift ship Empire Elaine (1942) on a voyage from Portland, Oregon, to Leith, also with a deck cargo of sawn timber.
