Spritsail barges trapped in frozen River Thames at Shoeburyness, Essex.
Two spritsail barges trapped in the ice on the River Thames off Shoeburyness. The nearest vessel is a topsail barge and the furthest one is a stumpie. The River Thames as far downstream as the estuary remained affected by solid ice and ice floes for three weeks in February 1895. A copy negative produced by A R Grierson of a photographic print, the origins of which are unknown. Vertical format.
