A half-length portrait of John Jervis, Earl of St Vincent (1752–1820) in flag officer’s full-dress uniform, 1787–1795, with the ribbon and star of the Order of the Bath, his left arm outstretched. Lettered beneath the image with the title, ‘Sir John Jervis, K. B.’ and also with the production details, ‘T. Stuart. / W. H. Ward & Co. Ltd.’ This nineteenth-century print was engraved by W. H. Ward & Co. after Robert Laurie’s mezzotint of an oil painting by Gilbert Stuart, published in August 1798 (see PAG6496). W. H. Ward & Co. have copied Laurie’s erroneous description of the artist as ‘T. Stuart’, rather than ‘G. Stuart’. (Updated June 2019.)
