On board the Type 12 frigate HMS Berwick (1959) alongside the south wall in No.3 basin at Chatham Dockyard, near the end of her modernization which commenced 4 December 1967 and completed 4 June 1971. The photographer is in the junior rates' mess between 19 and 23 stations on 3 deck looking to starboard and slightly aft from 19½ station on the centreline showing a triple tier bunk unit and a locker against the forward bulkhead. A Thermotank air conditioning unit is in the starboard forward corner at high level. A bookshelf, locker, suitcase rack, litter bin and kit lockers are against the starboard side of the ship. A Nu-Swift fire extinguisher is next to a suitcase rack on the extreme right.
