The photographer is in the junior rates' mess between 57 and 62½ stations on 3 deck looking to starboard from 59 station on the port side showing kit and mess lockers, the stairs leading up to 2 deck, a closed watertight hatch leading down to 4 deck and the backs of more kit and boot lockers on the left. An automatic emergency lantern is fitted to a central pillar which has two oiltight scuttles next to it. A triple tier bunk unit is in the right foreground with kit and boot lockers beyond it.
