The County class guided missile destroyer Hampshire (1961) in the fitting out basin of John Brown & Co Ltd at Clydebank, West Dunbartonshire. The ship is berthed port side to the quay. The photographer is on a raised position on the quayside abreast 'A' turret looking to starboard and slightly forward showing the capstan and breakwater on the forecastle deck between 8 and 23 stations. Men are bringing stores aboard across the brow while a petty officer disembarks. On the opposite side of the fitting out basin is the Cunard ship Franconia (1955), ex Ivernia, being converted to a combined cruise ship and transatlantic liner.
