Weight
An unfinished lead weight.
This piece is associated with the Herschel family since it features in the catalogue made of all the astronomical material extant at the Herschel house in Slough (Observatory House) in 1924. This weight would presumbably have been used to weigh out materials such as finding the mass of certain chemicals before reacting them with each other. Alternatively, it may have been intended for use as a counterbalance on a telescope.
