Photopositive

A square glass plate photopositive of Transit of Venus taken at Luxor in 1874 with one exposure of the planet Venus crossing the Sun's limb. Scratched onto the glass near the lower edge reads '1874 Luxor 10h - 29m - 59.8s G.S.T. no 3'. Guidelines are scratched across the Sun's disc. The plate is currently stored in a black cardboard box.
