A wax paper calotype negative. A view of the River Tawe at low tide and dried out, taken from the quayside just behind a paddle tug, whose portside paddle box is just visible. In the middle of the river is a stern view of the barque Countess of Bective (1843). To its right, alongside the quay in front of the single-masted barge is the barque Mary Dugdale (1835). The lower yards of most of the ships have been scandalized (set at an acute angle to the decks) to prevent them touching. The port quarter view of a third barque, whose main top mast has been struck down, is unidentified.

In a letter dated 3 November 1846 to WHF Talbot from Calvert Jones, he lists the Swansea negatives and includes a number relating to the Mary Dugdale [BL, LA46-123]. Jones had arrived back in England from his European trip in early June 1846 to sort out the afffairs of his dead uncle.
